short intro
[a special hello to everyone from Cliff Ravenscraft's GSPN My Crazy Life podcast! And if you don't know what I'm talking about, go listen here!]

Hey there! My name is Kim and I am from the west coast of Florida. I've been married almost 10 years to Mark (soon to be ex) and we have 2 girls, Kristi and Katie. This page is to provide some basic info about me, my varied sites dedicated to my interests, and a few pages at this site about some of my other favorites.

where'd i get a name like "Calvero" from?
Charlie Chaplin as Calvero (with a dash of the Little Tramp) First off, it might be a good idea to explain where I got the name Calvero from. If you visit Chaplin Fans Unite!, the Comedy Classics Forums, or the Comedy Classics Podcast, you know that I am a huge Charlie Chaplin fan. Calvero is the name from his 1952 film Limelight.

When I first went on the internet way back in January 1995, the university I attended gave all students free internet accounts and assigned user names. But when I signed up on BBSs (Bulletin Board System), I got to choose a name. Now, I'm not talking about a message board, I'm talking mid 90s internet. (Check out Wikipedia's entry on BBSs.) Wanting to use a Chaplin related name, my choices were limited since Chaplin's character usually went by the name of "Charlie" when he was in his infamous Little Tramp. Charlie was already taken at the BBS, so I made a choice from his latter films. There was Hynkel from The Great Dictator and Verdoux from Monsieur Verdoux, but those characters were mass murderers, so nix those names. Shadov, from A King in New York was a possibility. But something about the name of Calvero I liked. For one thing I liked the character, a person who, while helping someone out of suicide, yet still has fears himself he has to overcome. It also male-sounding enough that it would keep guys away who are looking for a girlfriend.

So Calvero it was and has remained for more than 12 years.

my major interests
On the left side of this page, you'll see a list of the sites that I run. And below I'll describe a bit more about them

Podcasts! - I love listening to podcasts. And that has evolved into wanting to make them as well. The Smile Podcast Network I created in February 2007. It is a network of podcasts that I produce containing: Cleft Club Radio (the first cleft lip and palate podcast), Basket of Thoughts (my personal podcast), Comedy Classics Podcast, and Joan of Arcadia Podcast.

Cleft lip and cleft palate - I was born with a cleft lip and palate and ever since I can remember, I have been very interested in helping others to deal with it. I first wrote Born to be Cleft in 1998 and unfortunately have not gotten a chance to add more and update it. To be even more supportive, I created CleftClub.com, a cleft lip and cleft palate support group and information site that I started in 1999. It then expanded into Cleft Club Radio that I mentioned above.

Classic Comedy - I have been a fan of classic comedy for several years, probably most of my life if you include being fans of Bert & Ernie and C3PO & R2-D2. Chaplin Fans Unite I started in 1998. It's a site dedicated to one of the greatest, Charlie Chaplin. With CFU, I had also created the Chaplin Forum which expanded into opened up in 2002 to Comedy Classics Forums for others to talk about other comedians.
